Hebrews 2:12-18
Jesus is so different from us because he is the eternal Son of God. His conception was by the power of the Holy Spirit. His life was lived without a moment’s sin. He could perform deeds and activities which are out of reach to us, like walking on water. Yet, Jesus is also just like us and that’s important, says the book of Hebrews. He didn’t use miraculous powers to live his personal life, but went through it as we do, under the pressures which often break us. More than that, he suffered under the power Satan wields: the power of death. But he did so because he had become just like his people so he could represent us before God. He suffered the punishment due to our sin. And the result is that we can share in his eternal life. Jesus truly became just like his people, so that his people could become like him.
