Hebrews 3:13-19
Continuing to make use of Psalm 95’s comments about the Exodus generation, these verses warn Christians not to become unfaithful to Jesus. He is our only hope for salvation from judgement upon sin. We cannot listen to voices around us who say otherwise, as was happening to the first hearers of Hebrews. They were being told their Judaism, built on Moses laws, had all they needed, and Jesus had nothing extra to offer. But Moses couldn’t save Israel in the desert and, in fact, he himself died there. It was Joshua who brought the next generation into the promise land. Our hope must be in the new Joshua, in Jesus. And we must encourage one another to hold onto him, for then we shall gain eternal life.
