Hebrews 5:1-6

The temple in first century Jerusalem was a dramatic place, with staff of priests headed up by the high priest. To the Christians living in Jerusalem it felt such a powerful demonstration of the reality of God. Yet it was only a model of the heavenly palace above where Jesus has been appointed the ultimate high priest. So the writer to the Hebrews encourages his hearers to focus on that, so that they don’t lose faith in Jesus because of the pressure of the sights and sounds all around them. Jesus displays all the true characteristics of a high priest, in his humble attitude. And, unlike other high priests, he has no sin and perfect access to the Father above. If we have him, we have all we need to know God for ever.
