Hebrews 5:7-14
Hebrews addresses Jewish Christians who ought to be teaching their fellow Jews in Jerusalem all about Christ’s fulfilment of the Old Testament. However, instead they are toning down their faith in the Lord and putting Judaism’s culture back at the top of their life. This is madness because it is to give up something better for something worse. So why are they doing? Suffering. Life is hard for them for Christians; letting go of Jesus seemingly makes it easier. But actually they should be persevering through the trials, praying to God, for this is the way He matures His people for eternal life. And that truth was seen clearly in Jesus’s own sufferings on earth.
