Hebrews 6:1-6
Hebrews was written to exhort Jewish Christians living in first century Jerusalem not to let their faith in Christ be overtaken by their native Judaism. To do so would be like a child on solid food giving it up to live just on its mother’s milk. It’s not possible to mature that way. They were valuing good teachings but without seeing how Jesus brings them to fulfilment. As a result they were missing the point and dishonouring the Saviour – a path which only leads to disaster. We must not allow ourselves to lose sight of the glory of Christ, and we must only ever read God’s word in the light Jesus brings to it.
