Hebrews 7:5-10
Abraham knew God. Yet, when he met Melchizedek he saw a man who could help him to know God better. We often feel the need of this. And, for Christians, that help comes to us from Jesus, the new Melchizedek. That’s a truth which Hebrews presses home upon its hearers by showing how much greater Jesus is than any other priests in Judea – no matter how fine they have been. No believer should allow anyone else to come between them and the Lord. However, that doesn’t mean all other help is wrong. Jesus has made his people into a kingdom of priests (1 Peter 2:4-5). So we can receive help from other Christians, so long as they don’t get in the way of our faith in Christ.
