Hebrews 7:20-28
God needs to take no oaths since His words are always reliable. So when He chooses to take one, it’s clearly a moment in history in which He wants us to know with absolute certainty that He will do what He’s said. A prime example of this is in Psalm 110 where He promises a priest like Melchizedek will come, who will perfectly fulfil all the requirements to make his people righteous and grant them peace. Jesus is God’s sworn promise made flesh. He lived without sin and, therefore, offered, on the cross, the perfect sacrifice to satisfy God’s justice. And as a result, his people are declared not guilty before God. We have no need of another priest than him. He saves completely.
