Hebrews 9:1-8
God set up a tent in the midst of the Israelite camp when they were on the move from Egypt to Canaan. It declared his willingness to be with His people. Yet, the way the tent functioned showed that the people also had to keep their distance from the holy God who had adopted them as His own. So the tent, or tabernacle, was a symbol of hope and also of separation. By giving it the Holy Spirit was teaching people to look forward to a day when God would make it possible for His people truly to live close to Him. In Jesus that has happened. He makes the unclean clean, so we can come closer to God and enjoy life with him, with the little groups of priests, and the solo high priest, could only dream of in under the old covenant. Jesus opens the way to God.
