Hebrews 9:23-28
When Christ ascended into heaven he went not only as the Son of God and king of kings, but also as the high priest representing his people before God. But we are sinful so taking us, as it were, into God’s presence would dirty heaven. Therefore, Christ shed his blood to clean that up. When he ascended as the sinners’ high priest, he was able to ensure that heaven was not ruined. His death washes away our sins giving us access to the Father. And it only took the one death of the cross. Unlike Israel’s high priest who sacrificed regularly, Christ only suffered the once in a sacrifice so infinite in worth it deals with everything between us and God. So a Christian knows that in this world they have free access to God, and that at death they will not be judged for their sin but enter into the delightful home of their Father.
