James 1:1
James was the half-brother of Jesus. He loved Israel and was faithful to his Jewish culture. But he also recognised his brother was God’s anointed king and the Son of God. So he submitted to him as a slave to his master, but not out of a sense of intimidation or control. James loved his Lord and willingly gave heart-felt service to him: his service was to care for the first Jewish followers of Christ. Those men and women suffered greatly, and many were driven away from Jerusalem by persecution. They lived in a time of monumental change for their nation. James sought to care for them and guide them as they entered a strange new time of their history.
