James 1:9-15
James’s letter is written to Jewish Christians living difficult lives. He calls them to see these are trials sent by God for good purposes, so that they can grow up as believers living by faith. This requires wisdom which God is willing to give them; wisdom which makes life-choices in a different way from the world. It enables a poor Christian to rejoice in all Christ has given them and a rich Christian to be humble as the servant of the Lord who knows wealth cannot save them. It also prevents a Christian from becoming bitter about their trials, implying that God has ill intentions. He does not! Trials are for good and it is Satan who corrupts them into temptations. We must resist the ways he plays on our desires, lest he ruins our faith and takes our life.
