James 3:13-18
It can be hard to make the right choices in life. We need help to do so from those who see more clearly: the wise. However, although useful, human wisdom has great limitations. So if we truly want to be wise about life, we have to begin by looking up to God, letting his reality fill our minds so that we have a better perspective on ourselves. Then we need to live by faith in him, obeying the Lord’s ways. That can then be the beginning of good wisdom that brings a delightful life. However, if we simply look to ourselves for insight, then such wisdom quickly takes a downwards turn and becomes harmful, as James describes in these verses.
