James 4:7-12
Pressure in life can drive us down bad paths. Satan loves to use that fact to tempt us. But we should learn from the Bible, and especially from Jesus’s time in the wilderness, to resist this pressure. If tempted by evil desires, then we must seek for them to be rooted out by the power of the Holy Spirit. If tempted by good desires being satisfied at the wrong time – as when Jesus was tempted – we must recognise the danger and recommit to God’s ways. And as we come near to God, and He to us, Satan will back off. James highlights all this for his friends, as he addresses the terrible ways they’ve been speaking to, and about, one another. They must weep over their sin, and return humbly to their Lord.
