Jeremiah 1:17-2:8
Jeremiah finds his work hard because he’s called to speak for the Lord to Judah about her unfaithfulness and the terrible repercussions it will bring to her. And the Lord’s expression of his reaction to this is powerful and moving. He describes ancient Israel like a wife whom he loved so well, and cared for so beautifully, yet who has embraced adultery by chasing the ways of others nations. Such unfaithfulness is wicked and highly damaging. Jeremiah has to communicate the pain caused by the nation’s conduct.
