Jeremiah 2:23-37
God isn’t pushed around by either external or internal forces; He is eternally consistent. But we fluctuate depending on what’s affecting us, and sometimes just one state of mind can overwhelm us. Here in Jeremiah, the Lord accuses Judah of being swept away by their lust for the lives of others nations, which leads them to chase after their gods. And he attacks this sinful weakness in a number of ways to bring to their minds and hearts a sense of shame for it and an awareness of the folly of their conduct. Yet they try to blame God for their problems, which is completely the wrong way round. We need to see the danger in our sinful desires and confess our sinfulness in them, if we want the Lord’s salvation.
