Jeremiah 3:1-14
Societies go bad at times. That doesn’t mean everyone commits exactly the same depths of depravity. But the society can be summarised as corrupted. Judah was like that in Jeremiah’s day due to her rampant worship of others gods. Here the Lord describes that as being like a wife who goes through string of men only to return to her original husband simpering with fake love. Now given what they’d seen happen to Israel in the north, they shouldn’t have been like this. But they were, and even a recent reformation under a good king only resulted in sham love for the Lord from many. Yet, the Lord is willing to show grace, and he does that by speaking to Israel and inviting her to repent. If Judah will see that, she can find forgiveness for herself! Our God offers such remarkable mercy to sinners, which should thrill our souls.
