Jeremiah 5:25-6:8
Ancient Jerusalem should have been a model city, a place of God’s beauty upon the earth with people living in loving unity, and thus been a future bride for the Son of God when he came as her king. But she failed, and that is especially seen here in Jeremiah’s day. Exploitation has become common in the city, the needy and weak are abused. And the leaders are the worst of it all with prophets failing to speak truth and priests going along with them. What hope for such a city? None for this earthly one which will go on to reject Christ himself. But there is a greater Jerusalem which shall exist for ever: a heavenly one built by the Lord Himself. All with faith in Christ become citizens there!
