Jeremiah 10:1-16
Idols have been a part of worship for many people. Why? Because it’s hard to relate to an invisible God. But idols are wrong for they misrepresent God and tempt us to worship false gods. The only true way to see God is to see Christ by faith, which we do by listening to the words of the gospel with the help of the Spirit. Hence Jeremiah in these verses attacks the idolatry of Israel. It’s been brought on by them looking at other nations; they need to stop for idols are nothing! Christians still need to hear this for we too can be tempted to idolatry, albeit in different ways (e.g. 1 John 5:21; Colossians 3:5). This needs killing in our hearts so that we give our full devotion to our Lord. He alone is the living God who made all things.
