Jeremiah 10:17-11:8
Jeremiah once more describes in vivid detail the level of trouble heading towards Judah. He responds to his prophecy with a cry of anguish: why have the people of Judah listened to the voices in their own heads instead of to the voice of the Lord? Then he calls for the Lord to discipline Judah fairly but not pour out his anger relentlessly: let that strike those who harm Judah! Well, some Judah probably hear some sense in Jeremiah’s plea to the Lord. But should they? If Judah is treated fairly then according to the terms of her covenant with God, she should be cursed with destruction for disobedience! So actually, Jeremiah’s words ought to drive people to cry for grace. We need to do the same.
